DIY - Ceiling Drywall Repair - Steps

Step 1: Check the space in the attic above the damaged area for wires or plumbing lines.
Step 2: Determine how far the damage extends.
Step 3: Use a drywall saw to remove the damaged area and any insulation from above.
Step 4: Drywal in different thicknesses. Replacement piece with the same thickness.
Step 5: Make sure the replacement piece will have adequate support.
Step 6: Use a utility knife to cut out a piece of drywall to fit the area you're replacing.
Step 7: Replace any insulation you removed earlier - fit the replacement piece into the ceiling. .
Step 8: Secure the drywall to the ceiling joists using drywall screws.
Step 9: Apply a thin layer of joint compound over the joints and drywall screw.
Step 10: Sand the area smooth and apply additional coats.
Step 11: Prime and paint it to match the ceiling.
Step 12: Finish.
